Hollow Knight: Silksong Special Announcement Set for August 21, 2025
Team Cherry has officially confirmed that it will host a “Special Announcement” for Hollow Knight: Silksong this Thursday, August 21, 2025, at 7:30am PT / 10:30am ET / 3:30pm BST. This marks the first substantial update on the highly anticipated sequel in a very long time, raising hopes that the long-awaited release date will finally be revealed.
The announcement will premiere on YouTube, with the official description teasing: “The countdown is on! Join us in 48 hours for a special announcement about Hollow Knight: Silksong!” Team Cherry echoed the same message on X (formerly Twitter), confirming that this will be the next major update for fans.
Silksong has already been confirmed as playable at Gamescom 2025, and speculation has been building that its marketing partnership with Xbox and the upcoming ROG Xbox Ally handheld could tie directly into its launch timing. Many expected the release date to drop during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025, but with this new “Special Announcement,” it seems increasingly likely that the studio is saving the news for its own spotlight.
Industry insider Jason Schreier of Bloomberg has even suggested that the release date is indeed being held for Thursday’s reveal. If true, this week could deliver not just Silksong’s long-awaited release date, but also an extended gameplay showcase.
(No, Silksong's release date will not be announced today at Gamescom Opening Night Live, despite Geoff Keighley's teasing)

With the ROG Xbox Ally also expected to receive a firm launch date during Gamescom ONL, it is possible that both announcements could arrive in tandem, further strengthening Xbox’s ties to Silksong’s release. Either way, fans won’t have to wait much longer to finally learn when they can step back into the hauntingly beautiful world that Team Cherry first unveiled back in 2019.
Do you think Team Cherry will finally announce Silksong’s release date this Thursday, or will it still keep fans waiting?
