Halo 2 and 3 Remakes Reportedly in Development as Halo 7 Becomes the Next Multiplayer Experience

The Halo franchise is reportedly entering a new era of remakes and expansions. According to leaker @leaks_infinite, Halo: Campaign Evolved, the Unreal Engine 5 remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved, is just the beginning of a full remake initiative. Both Halo 2 and Halo 3 campaigns are allegedly being remade as well, featuring optional sprint mechanics and refined gameplay inspired by later titles in the series.

All these remakes will focus solely on their campaigns without multiplayer. The reason, according to the leak, is that Halo Studios wants to avoid splitting its community across multiple titles. Instead, the team aims to unite all players in one shared multiplayer experience within Halo 7, which is currently in development.

The leaker stated:

“Halo Studios wants everyone to play Halo 7’s multiplayer. They don’t want to create separate multiplayer experiences competing with each other. This is a big factor, especially because all these games will be launching on PlayStation.”

If true, this marks a historic change for the franchise, as Halo will appear on PlayStation 5 for the first time alongside PC and Xbox.

Halo 7 is expected to feature its own campaign that continues the story from Halo Infinite. However, it is possible that the campaign and multiplayer will release separately, following the model used for Infinite, which launched a paid single-player experience alongside a free-to-play multiplayer.

Although referred to as Halo 7, the title may not retain its number in the final release. Reports suggest that the development team, formerly known as 343 Industries, currently has more than four Halo projects underway, including these remakes and new mainline entries.

The first project, Halo: Campaign Evolved, is due next year for PC, Xbox, and PlayStation 5. It will include Unreal Engine 5 visuals, optional sprint, updated weapons, improved mechanics from later games, and three brand-new missions set before the events of Halo: Combat Evolved.

However, not everyone in the community is embracing the new direction. Jaime Griesemer, one of the designers of the original 2001 game, has voiced criticism toward some of the gameplay changes, particularly those that alter pacing and core movement systems.

If these leaks hold true, 2025 could mark the beginning of a bold new phase for Halo, combining modern remakes with a unified multiplayer experience across all major platforms.

Would you replay the original Halo trilogy rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5, or do you prefer the franchise to focus on entirely new stories?
