GreedFall 2: The Dying World Receives Its Largest Early Access Update Yet
French developer Spiders has released the second and largest Early Access update to date for GreedFall 2: The Dying World, significantly expanding the game since its debut on Early Access. This new content drop introduces a major new region, an unexpected companion, a complete overhaul of the combat system, and extensive quality of life improvements that reshape the early experience.
The highlight of the update is Peren, a newly explorable city and region. Formerly the capital of the ancient Astrian civilization, Peren is now controlled by the Merchant Congregation. The city is dealing with the spread of the Malichor epidemic, a mysterious plague tearing through the continent of Gacane. As players navigate Peren’s markets, alleys, and faction territories, they will uncover political power struggles that tie directly into the broader narrative.
Another major addition is a new companion: Till. His arrival may surprise players, as he is responsible early in the story for capturing the protagonist and forcing them to flee their native island of Teer Fradee. Till, once a captain in the prestigious Coin Guard mercenary guild, now seeks redemption. He is described as quiet and gruff, but proves invaluable in combat as a heavily armored tank wielding a two handed sword.
One of the biggest criticisms during the Early Access period has been the combat system. In response, Spiders has implemented a comprehensive redesign with three new modes that cater to different playstyles:
Tactical mode: Emphasizes battlefield control and camera management with full tactical pause usage
Focused mode: Prioritizes direct action with AI controlled companions and limited tactical pausing
Hybrid mode: Combines manual and AI control for a balanced experience
Players can also choose between three difficulty settings: Tactical mode, Adventure mode, and Story mode.
Beyond combat changes, this update delivers new side quests, fresh world events, improvements to the crafting system, a redesigned character creation suite, and a fully featured Photo Mode. Spiders has also streamlined progression and added various quality of life enhancements aimed at making the Early Access experience smoother. For players who want to jump straight into the new content, the developers have provided ready to use save files, available through the Steam update page.
GreedFall 2: The Dying World is currently targeting a 2026 release window for version 1.0, which will coincide with its console launch. Once Spiders confirms a firmer date, we will provide an update.
