Gears of War: Reloaded Launches This August with Full Crossplay and PlayStation Debut
On August 25, 2025, Gears of War: Reloaded, the definitive remaster of the seminal third-person shooter that launched one of Xbox's most recognizable series, will formally premiere. With the release of this improved version, the fight against the Locust Horde will reach a whole new audience on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and—for the first time ever—PS5.
The title, announced in a major reveal on the official Xbox blog, is being developed by The Coalition in collaboration with Sumo Interactive and Disbelief. Gears of War: Reloaded is more than just an aesthetic upgrade. It combines all of the content from the 2015 Gears of War: Ultimate Edition and expands upon it with modern technical upgrades and platform-agnostic features.
The remaster will include the complete original campaign—enhanced with a bonus campaign act previously exclusive to PC—as well as all multiplayer maps, modes, post-launch content, and a curated roster of unlockable classic characters and cosmetics. It's designed to serve as the ultimate Gears package for veterans and newcomers alike.
Technically, Gears of War: Reloaded is a considerable leap forward. The game will support native 4K resolution and 60 FPS in the campaign, while multiplayer will run at a blistering 120 FPS. Additional enhancements include HDR, VRR support, improved shadows and reflections, super resolution upscaling with advanced antialiasing, and completely eliminated loading screens during the campaign. The experience is designed to be fluid and visually modern across all supported platforms.
The Coalition and Microsoft are also focusing on accessibility and player connection. Cross-progression and cross-platform multiplayer are fully enabled, and players can connect using a Microsoft account to sync their progress across platforms. Impressively, multiplayer matchmaking and crossplay functionality will be available even without a Microsoft account.
Existing owners of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will receive a free upgrade to Gears of War: Reloaded, preserving long-term fan loyalty. The game will also be included in the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass libraries from launch, ensuring widespread availability and encouraging community growth.
The announcement is not only a tribute to Gears' legacy, but also a significant step by Xbox, demonstrating a willingness to bring its flagship franchises to new audiences. Gears of War: Reloaded, with its trademark gritty combat, immersive storytelling, and improved fidelity and accessibility, is shaping up to be one of the generation's most anticipated remasters.
Whether you're returning to the battlefield or experiencing it for the first time, mark August 25 on your calendar.
