Frontier Legends Brings Open World Survival Western Action to Early Access This Spring

Canadian developer Neojac Entertainment, known for Junk Survivor and Athos, has announced that its next project Frontier Legends will debut in Early Access this Spring, aiming to blend classic Western fantasy with modern survival systems and player driven progression.

Frontier Legends puts you in the boots of a greenhorn settler stepping off the train into a harsh and unforgiving version of the American West, starting with little more than ambition and the will to survive. From there, Neojac’s pitch is a wide role spectrum that lets players shape their own frontier identity. You can play as a hunter tracking game through dense wilderness, a trader moving goods between settlements, a lawman trying to keep order on dusty streets, or a bandit building a criminal empire.

On the gameplay side, the studio is positioning Frontier Legends as a fast paced survival experience layered with crafting, exploration, and base building. The world includes staples like dynamic weather, day night cycles, and unscripted NPC encounters that are meant to keep sessions from feeling overly scripted. The most ambitious hook is the settlement building system, which is designed to let players expand a starter camp into a functioning frontier town. That includes recruiting NPC settlers and assigning roles across farming, crafting, gathering, and defense. Neojac also frames settlement health as a leadership metric: manage it well and it thrives, ignore it and it collapses under the pressures of frontier life.

Exploration is described as central rather than optional. Players can push beyond their town borders to uncover ancient ruins, forgotten camps, legendary treasures, and hidden secrets scattered across the map. There is also horse taming, with each horse featuring unique attributes that can impact travel, combat, and survival efficiency, which could become a meaningful progression layer if the stats and bonding systems are deep enough.

Multiplayer is planned with both cooperative and competitive options, although Neojac has not yet clarified the maximum number of simultaneous players. The studio’s vision includes teaming up to trade, build, and survive together, or pivoting into raiding, betrayal, and rival conflict for dominance. Community events and seasonal challenges are also planned to support ongoing rewards and recognition, signaling a long term engagement strategy once Early Access gets rolling.

Neojac is also planning a demo for Steam Horse Fest, which it and runs till February 23 2026

For Western survival fans, Frontier Legends is targeting a high value sandbox loop. If the settlement system is as reactive as described and the multiplayer layer lands with meaningful risk reward, this could become the kind of Early Access title that grows through community driven stories instead of just content drops.

In a survival Western like Frontier Legends, what is the bigger make or break feature for you: deep settlement management with NPC roles, or high stakes multiplayer where alliances and betrayals actually matter?
