Final Fantasy VII Revelation Brings Back Rebirth Outfits as Square Enix Prepares the Trilogy’s Biggest Postgame Challenge

Final Fantasy VII Revelation is shaping up to be the most ambitious entry in Square Enix’s remake trilogy, bringing back content from Final Fantasy VII Rebirth while expanding player freedom, customization, and endgame challenge. In a new interview with Gamespark, director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed that every outfit from the second entry will return in Final Fantasy VII Revelation, including Tifa’s iconic swimsuit from the Costa del Sol chapter.

The confirmation is important because Revelation is being positioned as the conclusion of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, a game designed to take everything established in Remake and Rebirth and push it further. Player freedom has been one of the biggest talking points around the final chapter, and the return of every Rebirth outfit suggests Square Enix wants fans to carry more of their favorite visual choices into the final adventure.

Hamaguchi explained that the team wanted to avoid forcing players into a visual style they do not like simply because of strategic advantages. Instead, Revelation will include a separate skin system that allows players to maintain preferred appearances while still using different performance related equipment.

"The strategic aspects of battles and the enjoyment of the visuals are, in a sense, contradictory. I think there are users who would dislike being forced to adopt a look they don't like just for the sake of strategy. Naturally, equipping clothing will change your character's appearance, but we've also implemented a separate, higher priority skin system. Even if your character's performance is that of a warrior, you can enjoy changing them back to their original soldier outfit or to other outfits obtained through exploring the world map."
— Naoki Hamaguchi

That system should be a welcome improvement for players who care about both combat builds and character presentation. In many RPGs, powerful equipment often comes with visual compromises, but Revelation appears to separate style from stats more clearly. This gives players more freedom to enjoy character outfits without sacrificing battle performance.

Hamaguchi then directly confirmed that Tifa’s swimsuit will be available in combat.

"You can even choose to fight in Tifa's swimsuit. Because the characters are so iconic, I think there's a high demand for players to want to play in these outfits, so we've made it relatively easy to choose."
— Naoki Hamaguchi

For fans of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, this confirms that the Costa del Sol costumes are not being left behind. Tifa’s swimsuit quickly became one of the most talked about outfits in Rebirth, and its return in Revelation shows that Square Enix understands how strongly players connect with these visual options. More importantly, it suggests the studio is treating outfits as part of the trilogy’s broader player expression system rather than temporary chapter specific content.

Beyond costumes, Hamaguchi also shared new details about the postgame structure, which sounds significantly more ambitious than what players experienced in Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. In the previous 2 games, postgame content largely focused on replaying the story in Hard Mode and completing difficult battle challenges. Revelation appears to be taking a different direction.

"I haven't told anyone this yet, but in previous games, you could reach the level cap relatively easily after clearing the game, and it was designed with the intention of please play through it thoroughly with the intention of starting over. But this time, we've prepared a lot of content that is much stronger than the final boss, such as the Weapons and the Knights of the Round, which I'm sure you've all been looking forward to."
— Naoki Hamaguchi

That statement is a major tease for longtime Final Fantasy VII fans. The Weapons are among the most iconic superbosses in the original game, and Knights of the Round remains one of the most legendary summons in the franchise. If Revelation turns these into major postgame challenges, the final chapter could deliver the most demanding content in the entire remake trilogy.

The idea of content stronger than the final boss also suggests a more traditional endgame RPG structure, where players continue building characters, testing advanced strategies, and facing optional threats after the main story ends. For players who enjoyed the brutal VR encounters in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, this could be exactly the kind of endgame expansion they were hoping for.

The mention of Knights of the Round is especially exciting. In the original Final Fantasy VII, it was one of the most powerful and memorable summons in the game. Translating that legacy into the modern combat system could create one of the most cinematic and mechanically intense battles Square Enix has ever built for the trilogy. If handled correctly, it could become a defining postgame encounter for Revelation.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation is expected to launch in Spring 2027, and every new detail makes the wait harder. Between expanded player freedom, the return of Rebirth outfits, the skin system, major superboss content, Weapons, and Knights of the Round, Square Enix appears to be preparing a finale that is not only larger in scope but also more rewarding for players who want to keep exploring after the credits.

For fans who have followed Cloud, Tifa, Aerith, Barret, and the rest of the party across 2 massive entries, Revelation has to deliver both emotional closure and gameplay payoff. Based on Hamaguchi’s latest comments, Square Enix seems determined to make the final chapter the most complete and challenging entry of the trilogy.

Are you more excited for the return of Rebirth outfits in Final Fantasy VII Revelation, or are you waiting to face the Weapons and Knights of the Round in the postgame?
