F2P MMORPG Blue Protocol: Star Resonance Launches on October 9 in Western Countries
Publisher A Plus has announced the official Western release date for the free-to-play MMORPG Blue Protocol: Star Resonance. The game will launch on October 9, 2025, across Europe, North America, and South America, and will be available on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store as well as on iOS and Android.
Originally developed by Bandai Namco Online Studios, Blue Protocol launched two years ago in Japan exclusively for PC. The game was initially planned for a Western release under Amazon Games, but due to its poor performance in Japan, servers were shut down, seemingly ending its global prospects.
However, the project was revived earlier this year when Shanghai Bokura Network Technology acquired the rights, reworking and rebranding the game into Blue Protocol: Star Resonance for a fresh global debut.
What’s Different in Star Resonance?
Business Model Shift: Originally buy-to-play, the new version is free-to-play with a gacha monetization system.
Seamless Open World: Unlike the segmented zones of the original Blue Protocol, Star Resonance introduces a fully connected open-world experience with added traversal mechanics like gliding.
Faster Action Combat: Combat has been reworked into a more dynamic, fast-paced system with complex boss encounters and PvE raids forming the backbone of endgame content.
Class Structure Overhaul: The hybrid roles of the original have been replaced with a more traditional MMO holy trinity system (tank, support, damage).
New Storyline: The narrative has been reimagined, making Star Resonance a distinct entry rather than a direct continuation.
At launch, Blue Protocol: Star Resonance will be available only on PC and mobile. While a console version hasn’t been confirmed, the developers may consider expanding to platforms like PlayStation and Xbox depending on the success of the Western rollout.
Do you think shifting to free-to-play with gacha mechanics will help Blue Protocol: Star Resonance succeed in the West, or will it face the same challenges as the original? Share your thoughts below!
