Embark CEO Says Battlefield 6 “Looks Really Good”; Confirms THE FINALS Will Be Supported for Years

In an interview featured in EDGE Magazine issue #416, Embark Studios founder and CEO Patrick Söderlund shared his thoughts on the upcoming Battlefield 6, while also reaffirming long-term support for the studio’s popular shooter THE FINALS.

Söderlund, who previously served as CEO and later VP & General Manager at DICE for over a decade, spoke candidly about seeing the next Battlefield game release so close to ARC Raiders, Embark’s upcoming PvPvE extraction shooter scheduled for October 30, 2025. Despite the competition, Söderlund expressed enthusiasm for DICE’s progress with the franchise that helped define his career.

“It is odd. I mean, we built Battlefield! But honestly, when I saw Battlefield 6 and what the team has done with it, I know how much time and energy has gone into it,” Söderlund said. “I think it looks really good, and I’m very happy it does look good. It’s an IP and a game that deserves to be great. I want to play it. And I will play it,  until the day we release ARC Raiders. And then I will play ARC Raiders instead.”

While ARC Raiders is on the horizon, Söderlund confirmed that THE FINALS - Embark’s breakout first-person shooter that debuted in December 2023 - will continue receiving updates and support for years to come.

Söderlund explained that the studio evaluates the game’s performance annually but, following strong engagement earlier this year, plans to maintain support well into the future.

“We take a 12-month approach, reviewing on an annual basis. In December 2024, it’d been out for a year, we sat down and said, ‘We’ll give it one more year and see what happens’. And then, relatively quickly, during the spring, we saw an uplift. So right now, I don’t see a reason why we shouldn’t continue supporting it for the next five years, to be honest.”

The statement should reassure fans concerned about the game’s longevity. THE FINALS recently launched Season 8, which added new weapons, improved destruction physics, and continued to refine the game’s signature dynamic environments, a defining trait reminiscent of Söderlund’s Battlefield roots.

Both THE FINALS and ARC Raiders highlight Embark’s growing ambition to blend innovation, accessibility, and deep mechanical design within multiplayer experiences. Meanwhile, Söderlund’s comments on Battlefield 6 suggest a genuine respect for his former team’s efforts to bring the franchise back to prominence.
