Edge of Memories Is a New Japanese-Inspired Action RPG from Midgar Studio, Out in Q4 2025

French developer Midgar Studio, known for the critically acclaimed JRPG Edge of Eternity, has emerged from a period of quiet to announce its sequel, Edge of Memories. Departing from its predecessor’s traditional turn-based approach, this new title is a full-fledged action RPG featuring real-time combat, while still drawing inspiration from Japanese art style and animation. Powered by Unreal Engine 5 and published by Nacon—who acquired Midgar Studio in 2022—Edge of Memories promises a fresh, dynamic gameplay experience set on the distant continent of Avaris in the world of Heryon.

In Edge of Memories, players follow the journey of Eline, an itinerant Soul Whisperer battling the devastating Corrosion plague that is transforming the once-thriving flora, fauna, and inhabitants of Avaris into grotesque abominations. After a mysterious encounter, a dark power awakens within her, granting her the ability to control the very corruption threatening her world. Eline is accompanied by her wise mentor Ysoris and Kanta, the shaman prince of a lost tribe, as they strive to uncover the secrets of the plague and find a way to end the apocalypse.

The game features a combo-based combat system that requires players to alternate between quick strikes and devastating techniques to efficiently overcome enemies. Strategic use of companion abilities is also crucial, and Eline can even transform into a berserker to deliver powerful blows and execute finishing moves. The continent of Avaris offers a rich variety of vibrant biomes, from the idyllic sandy shores of Sarlah-Durah—a bustling port city—to the snow-capped peaks of the Kezal Mountains. Players will navigate these diverse landscapes with the aid of a rideable, agile feline companion known as a Nekaroo, which opens up access to otherwise unreachable areas. As the story unfolds, familiar locations transform into mysterious new paths, ensuring that every mission contributes meaningfully to the narrative, deepening the relationships between characters and enriching the overall story.

A stunning pre-release gameplay trailer offers an immersive look at the game’s breathtaking visuals and innovative mechanics that you can watch in the Trailer. Additionally, fans will be thrilled by the soundtrack, composed by Cédric Menendez, featuring the evocative voice of Emi Evans (famed for her work on NieR: Automata) and the musical influence of legendary composer Yasunori Mitsuda, known for titles like Chrono Trigger, Xenoblade Chronicles, and Sea of Stars.

Edge of Memories is set to launch in Q4 2025 for PC via Steam (Steam Page), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X. With no filler quests in sight, every mission is designed to add depth to the story and characters, ensuring that players experience a rich and cohesive adventure.
