Cyberpunk Series Creator Invites Keanu Reeves to Call Him if He Wants to Return as Johnny Silverhand
The world of Cyberpunk 2077 continues to spark excitement years ahead of its sequel, codenamed Project Orion. While CD Projekt RED’s next entry in the series is still in early pre-production, speculation about the return of Keanu Reeves as the rebellious rocker Johnny Silverhand refuses to fade.
In a recent anniversary livestream hosted by CD Projekt RED, Cyberpunk series creator Mike Pondsmith responded directly to Reeves’ previously expressed interest in reprising his role. Reeves had said back in September that he would “absolutely” love to return to the franchise, even joking about finding a way to bring Johnny back from the dead. Pondsmith, with a grin, replied during the stream, “Not that long ago, I saw that Keanu would like to find a way to come back from the dead and play Johnny again. I have ways to do that, Keanu. Contact me.”
While Pondsmith’s comments were lighthearted, fans immediately began to speculate on whether this could hint at Johnny Silverhand’s return in Project Orion. However, Pondsmith has also clarified that his involvement in the sequel will be far more limited compared to his contributions to the original Cyberpunk 2077. That means, even if he has creative ideas for reviving Silverhand, the final decision rests with CD Projekt RED’s development team, which could take the story in a completely different direction.
Reeves’ portrayal of Johnny Silverhand became one of Cyberpunk 2077’s defining elements, merging the actor’s charisma with the game’s dark, futuristic tone. Fans have long hoped for his return, even if only through flashbacks or digital echoes within the game’s lore.
