Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 Adds Edgerunners 2 Content, Dual Wielding and Cross Platform Mods

Cyberpunk 2077 is receiving another major free update on October 22, 2026, bringing new content inspired by Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, expanded combat mechanics, cyberware customization, and cross platform mod support. The release follows the premiere of all 10 episodes of the new anime series on Netflix on October 20, marking another collaboration between CD Projekt RED and Japanese animation studio TRIGGER.

According to the official Update 2.5 patch notes, players can experience a new side quest titled Clampdown, which serves as a prequel to the events of Edgerunners 2. The mission becomes available after completing The Heist and 2 gigs for Wakako, eventually rewarding players with a 5 piece equipment set inspired by the character King. A new radio station, HKGN 102.0 FM, also introduces music from the animated series.

Beyond the anime collaboration, Update 2.5 significantly expands character customization and gameplay. A new Double Trouble perk in the Cool skill tree allows players to dual wield Power Pistols and Revolvers, supported by 4 additional perks. Players can also customize the appearance of Mantis Blades, Gorilla Arms, Monowire, and Projectile Launch Systems by visiting 5 newly introduced Glamdocs throughout Night City. Additional clothing collections, hairstyles, and Photo Mode improvements further expand personalization.

Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 Highlights

Cyberware Customizable arm implants through Glamdocs
Mod Support Integrated mod.io support across PC and consoles

One of the update's most significant additions is cross platform mod support powered by mod.io. Players will be able to browse and install a curated selection of community modifications directly through the game menu on PC, Mac, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. More modifications are expected to become available over time, although achievements and trophies will be disabled when using modded saves on consoles.

PC players also receive several technical improvements, including support for NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 with Dynamic Multi Frame Generation and up to 6X frame generation, alongside performance optimizations for ray tracing. The update also adds support for compatible Samsung Odyssey 3D monitors, MetalFX Frame Interpolation, AMD FSR Anti Lag 2, and improved HDR rendering. These additions build on Cyberpunk 2077's earlier DLSS 4 integration.

Meanwhile, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 introduces an entirely new cast of characters in a standalone story exploring vengeance and redemption in Night City. Directed by Kai Ikarashi, the anime features character designs by Kanno Ichigo, with Bartosz Sztybor returning as showrunner, writer, and producer.

Update 2.5 is scheduled for release on October 22 for PC, Mac through Steam, GOG and Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Nintendo Switch 2 and the Mac App Store version will receive the update shortly afterward.

Duck IT Take

Update 2.5 demonstrates CD Projekt RED's continued commitment to expanding Cyberpunk 2077 beyond its original release. While the new Edgerunners quest connects the game more closely with its animated universe, dual wielding and cyberware customization provide meaningful additions to gameplay.

However, cross platform mod support may have the greatest long term impact. Bringing curated community modifications to consoles could extend the game's lifespan while making customization accessible to players who previously relied entirely on official updates.

The technical improvements are equally significant, particularly DLSS 4.5 and expanded frame generation support for players using demanding ray tracing settings.

With the Cyberpunk sequel already in development, Update 2.5 reinforces the original game's position as an evolving RPG rather than a completed product receiving only maintenance patches.
