Craft and Build Your Way to Saving Humanity in The Last Caretaker, Now Available in Early Access on PC
Finnish studio Channel37, founded in 2021 by former Trials developers, has officially launched its debut title, The Last Caretaker, now available in Early Access on Steam and the Epic Games Store.
The Last Caretaker is a survival crafting and building game that places players in control of a robotic caretaker awakening in a flooded world where humanity has all but vanished. The goal is to restore your ship, explore the remnants of civilization beneath the waves, and gather the resources needed to rebuild and ultimately save humankind.
The game begins with your caretaker reactivating the systems of a massive submerged ship. Once its engines are operational, players can venture into a vast ocean world, collecting materials, repairing technology, and uncovering what led to Earth’s downfall. The focus is on methodical progression, thoughtful exploration, and crafting systems that tie directly into the story of preservation and recovery.
Alongside its Early Access launch, Channel37 shared a detailed development roadmap, confirming that The Last Caretaker is set for full 1.0 release in 2026.
The first major update will arrive before the end of 2025, introducing:
New ship modules
A night vision system
A new node-based questline
Warehouses and caves
A lighthearted basketball mini-game
Four additional major updates are planned throughout 2026, one at the start of the year, two in spring, and one during the summer. If all stays on schedule, the final update will align with the game’s full launch window.
“We’re delighted to share our vision with players, and are committed to the long-term future of The Last Caretaker,” said Antti Ilvesuo, co-founder of Channel37. “We wanted to make a world that feels like it could exist; it’s survival that makes sense. Sharing this roadmap now shows our intention, and we’ll deliver all of this and more as we head toward full launch in 2026.”
For players looking for enhanced performance, NVIDIA has confirmed that The Last Caretaker supports DLSS 4 Multi-Frame Generation and Super Resolution, offering a significant visual boost for GeForce RTX 40 and 50 Series GPUs. The game is also playable via NVIDIA GeForce NOW, making it accessible to cloud gaming users.
With its atmospheric world, emotional storytelling, and promising development plan, The Last Caretaker could become one of the standout survival crafting games of the next year.
