CD PROJEKT RED Lines Up PS5 Performance Fixes for The Witcher 3 Remastered
CD PROJEKT RED is not finished tuning The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered after launch. Following 2 quick updates on October 1, the studio has now confirmed that it is working on another round of fixes, with further performance improvements, particularly on PlayStation 5, listed among the priorities. The update should be welcome news for console players who have reported frame rate drops, visual issues and uneven performance after the Remastered upgrade.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered launched on September 29 as a free upgrade for existing owners, bringing enhanced visuals, updated performance targets, reworked lighting, improved combat, an overhauled skill system, cross platform mod support and dedicated PlayStation 5 Pro support. On paper, it is one of the most ambitious technical updates the game has received since release. In practice, the rollout has also introduced problems that CD PROJEKT RED is now moving to address.
The first post launch update, Patch 5.00b, arrived on October 1 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and the PC Xbox Play Anywhere version. It fixed missing DLSS in the Xbox Play Anywhere PC version, made lighting adjustments for interiors that appeared too dark and added other changes intended to improve parity with the PC version. CD PROJEKT RED also said it was investigating additional reports submitted through its technical support portal.
Later the same day, Hotfix 5.00c arrived for PC versions on Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, Battle.net and Xbox Play Anywhere. That update fixed save and load problems caused by special characters in the Documents folder path, addressed quieter voiceover audio after pause menu navigation, adjusted visuals in Velen, reverted a HairWorks related change that caused performance and visual problems for some players, fixed marketing telemetry settings and restored access to the Classic 1.32 version.
The next round of fixes is aimed at remaining issues. In a new official update, CD PROJEKT RED said it is working on further performance improvements, particularly on PlayStation 5, more visual adjustments, My Rewards and Twitch Drops fixes, Ukrainian localization availability in more regions on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and voiceover audio fixes on consoles. The studio also said it is continuing to investigate reported problems and working to bring more mods across all platforms.
That status is important because console players have fewer fallback options than PC users. PC players can sometimes adjust settings, install performance oriented mods or roll back to older builds depending on storefront and configuration. PlayStation 5 players, especially those affected by performance drops or audio problems, need official fixes from CD PROJEKT RED. That makes the promised PS5 focused improvements one of the most important items in the current update plan.
The situation also highlights the challenge of modernizing an older open world RPG at this scale. The Remastered release is not just a texture pass. It adds new rendering behavior, lighting changes, performance targets, platform specific features, mod support and gameplay updates to a massive game that already spans multiple expansions and thousands of interactions. Even small changes can create unexpected problems across platforms.
This update also connects to the broader technical push around the Remastered release, adding Path Tracing and DLSS 4.5, CD PROJEKT RED is using this version to reposition the game for modern hardware, especially on PC. The latest fix roadmap shows that the ambition is still there, but the launch version needs additional polish before every platform feels equally stable.
The good news is that CD PROJEKT RED is responding quickly. 2 updates in 1 day and a public list of upcoming fixes show that the studio is actively tracking player feedback. The less positive side is that The Witcher 3 Remastered clearly launched with issues that affect the experience, especially for players who expected a clean console upgrade.
The most important distinction is that the next patch is not just about visuals. Performance improvements on PlayStation 5 matter because frame pacing and stability are what determine whether this feels like a true upgrade or a technical tradeoff. If CD PROJEKT RED can smooth out PS5 performance while continuing to fix audio, localization, rewards and visual issues, Remastered still has a strong path forward.
Are you waiting for the next patch before playing The Witcher 3 Remastered on PlayStation 5, or have the current fixes already improved the experience enough?
