Bloodlines 2 Publisher Promises Fix to Clans Being Locked Behind Day-One DLC

Paradox Interactive has confirmed that changes are coming to the controversial decision to lock two vampire clans, Lasombra and Toreador, behind a day-one DLC in Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2.

When the publisher first announced that these clans would only be available through the $21.99 Shadows and Silk DLC (or by purchasing the Premium Edition), it was no surprise that the community quickly voiced its outrage. For many fans, clan choice is one of the most fundamental elements of the Vampire: The Masquerade experience, and placing popular clans like Lasombra and Toreador behind a paywall sparked heavy criticism.

After several days of backlash, Paradox Interactive seems to be rethinking the decision. Community Manager DebbieElla addressed the controversy on the game’s official Discord, stating:

“We are listening to your feedback about the Lasombra and Toreador clan access, and we're making adjustments ahead of launch to reflect this. We will share more information about what this means as soon as possible. In the meantime, please join us tomorrow on Twitch at 17:00 CEST, where we'll be showing off more of the game!”

Exactly what these adjustments will look like remains unclear. Paradox could move the clans into the base game or provide another way to unlock them without requiring the DLC purchase. For now, players will have to wait for further clarification during tomorrow’s Twitch stream, where more of Bloodlines 2 will also be showcased.

The backlash highlights a recurring debate in the industry about day-one DLC practices, particularly when they involve gating content that feels like it belongs in the base game. For a title like Bloodlines 2, which already carries high expectations after years of development challenges and restarts, fan trust will be critical at launch.

Do you think Paradox should move Lasombra and Toreador into the base game for all players, or should they remain premium content? Share your thoughts below.
