Bloober Team Unveils Cronos: The New Dawn Developer Diary
Bloober Team has provided a first deep dive into Cronos: The New Dawn during the Future Games Show: Spring Showcase 2025. The developer diary series premiered with insights into the game's inspirations, mechanics, and lore, as well as some intriguing community Q&A moments.
A Blend of Sci-Fi Horror and Time Travel
Described as a survival horror game with time-travel elements, Cronos: The New Dawn draws inspiration from John Carpenter's The Thing, Netflix’s Dark, Dead Space, 12 Monkeys, and even Dark Souls. According to Bloober Team, the horror experience will be more challenging than their past titles.
Players take on the role of Travelers, individuals sent to the ruins of human civilization to find time rifts and retrieve those lost to the apocalypse. The game’s setting is an alternative history where the world ended in the 1980s, an event the developers call The Change.
A World Filled with Horror and Mystery
Enemies in Cronos: The New Dawn are called Orphans, terrifying creatures that are formed from human flesh—a clear homage to the grotesque body horror seen in The Thing. The game will feature varied enemy types, each with unique abilities, ensuring that players never feel safe while exploring its eerie landscapes.
One of the most intriguing elements is the Traveler suit design, which resembles a diving suit rather than traditional military gear. This choice reflects the game's theme of diving through time rather than just surviving the apocalypse.
Quickfire Developer Q&A
At the end of the deep dive, the game’s directors answered several community questions:

Some locations will feature huge walls of flesh ✓
There may be aliens “?”
Yes, you can punch monsters in the face (if they have one) ✓
Fire will play an important role ✓
Dismemberment is included, but works differently from Dead Space ✓
Following the successful launch of Silent Hill 2 Remake, Bloober Team is gearing up for another major horror experience. Cronos: The New Dawn is set to launch later this year for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X.
