Assassin’s Creed Hexe Leak Claims Ezio Returns as an Older Mentor, but Ubisoft Has Confirmed None of It

A new Reddit leak thread is pushing Assassin’s Creed Hexe back into the spotlight, this time with claims that the game’s lead character is named Anika, that she may be tied to Claudia Auditore’s bloodline, and that Ezio Auditore could return in a mentor style role. If true, that would instantly make Hexe one of the most lore heavy Assassin’s Creed projects in years, especially because it would connect Ubisoft’s darker witch trial era setting with one of the franchise’s most beloved legacy families. Right now, though, all of those details remain rumor. Ubisoft has not confirmed Anika, Ezio, Claudia, or any of the leaked dialogue now circulating online.

What Ubisoft has officially confirmed is much narrower. The company first announced Codename Hexe in 2022 as one of the next flagship Assassin’s Creed projects, and in March 2026 said it was still taking its time with the game and would stay quiet a little longer before sharing more. That means nearly every new story beat now being discussed, from Anika’s lineage to Ezio’s role and the reported Würzburg setting details, still sits outside official confirmation. In other words, the leak is interesting, but it is not the same thing as a reveal.

That said, the reason this rumor is getting traction is not hard to understand. Ezio remains the defining face of Assassin’s Creed for a huge part of the fanbase, and any suggestion that Ubisoft is bringing him back, especially in an older guide or mentor role, is going to hit instantly. The leak also claims Hexe’s protagonist has a family connection to Claudia Auditore rather than Ezio directly, which would be a clever way to tie the game to the Italian Brotherhood without forcing a full nostalgia retread. If Ubisoft is really heading in that direction, it could give Hexe a stronger emotional hook than some of the series’ more recent entries. That is still speculation based on the leak, not a confirmed plot summary.

The timing of the leak is also notable because Hexe has had a visibly unstable development stretch in 2026. Clint Hocking left Ubisoft earlier this year, with Jean Guesdon stepping in as the new creative lead on the project, and later reporting indicated that game director Benoit Richer also exited while around 50 developers were moved off the team. Insider Gaming has also reported that Hexe was targeting June 2027 internally, while warning that a later 2027 release remains possible. That turbulence does not automatically mean the project is in trouble, but it does explain why fans are watching every new rumor so closely.

The smarter read right now is simple. The leak could be pointing to real internal material, but until Ubisoft says more, fans should treat the Ezio return, the Claudia bloodline angle, and the protagonist details as unverified. Hexe still looks like one of Ubisoft’s most intriguing upcoming games, especially with its darker tone and central European setting, but the final shape of the story may still change before launch.

Would you want Hexe to lean hard into classic Assassin’s Creed legacy with Ezio and the Auditore line, or would you rather see Ubisoft keep it mostly standalone?
