Remnant II Publisher Arc Games Becomes Independent After Splitting from Embracer Group
Arc Games, the publisher behind Remnant II, has officially separated from Embracer Group and is now operating as an independent double A publisher. The news follows a turbulent period for Embracer, which has been selling off studios and shutting down others after its two billion United States dollar deal collapsed, triggering major restructuring across the company.
Last week marked the exit of both Arc Games and Cryptic Studios from Embracer. Unlike Volition Games and Free Radical Design, which were shuttered during Embracer’s collapse, Arc Games and Cryptic Studios successfully escaped closure. Their independence was secured through a buyout supported financially by XD Inc., allowing the transition to proceed without layoffs or structural disruption.
Arc Games confirmed that its internal organization will remain intact during the transition, ensuring stability for its teams and ongoing development projects. The publisher emphasized that its priority is to continue operating without the instability that plagued Embracer in recent years.
“This milestone marks a major new chapter for Arc Games,” said chief executive officer Yoon Im in a press release. “We appreciate our time being a part of Embracer Group and the accomplishments achieved since the company’s inception over fifteen years ago. These experiences have shaped who we are today. As an independent publisher, we are now positioned to more fully pursue our vision, collaborating with exceptional developers worldwide and bringing standout games to market. The year two thousand twenty six is already shaping up to be one of the most ambitious and innovative years in our history, and we are excited for what lies ahead.”
Arc Games has built a strong portfolio over the years. In addition to publishing Remnant: From the Ashes and Remnant II, the publisher is known for major titles such as the Torchlight series, Star Trek Online, Neverwinter, and the recently released Fellowship. It has also published smaller but critically recognized titles including Have A Nice Death and Hyper Light Breaker.
The split from Embracer marks a significant turning point for Arc Games, positioning the publisher for greater autonomy as it enters a competitive but opportunity rich market for double A games. With a stable team, outside financial backing, and a renewed independent identity, the company appears ready to push forward with its most ambitious lineup in years.
Do you think Arc Games will thrive as an independent publisher, or was Embracer still providing valuable backing despite the turmoil
