Amazon Orders Two Seasons of God of War TV Series and Taps Shogun Director Frederick E.O. Toye for Opening Episodes
Amazon’s live action adaptation of God of War is gaining significant momentum as the company prepares for production. The long awaited series, which is now targeting a March two thousand twenty six filming start, has reportedly received a two season order from Amazon. This latest update comes from Deadline, which also confirms that the first two episodes will be directed by Emmy award winning filmmaker Frederick E.O. Toye.
Toye is known for his exceptional work on Shogun, The Boys, Westworld, Person of Interest, and Lost. His involvement in the early episodes is especially notable, as these chapters will define the tone, pacing, and cinematic identity of the series for audiences.
Ronald D. Moore, best known for his work on Battlestar Galactica and For All Mankind, remains the showrunner, writer, and executive producer of God of War. Moore’s stewardship was part of the creative reboot that restructured the project earlier this year and aligned it more closely with the emotional and grounded storytelling of the modern God of War titles.
According to Deadline, the series has already begun pre production in Vancouver ahead of the March filming date. Amazon has not revealed which specific story beats the adaptation will cover, but the show is confirmed to follow the narrative tone and character development established in God of War two thousand eighteen and God of War Ragnarok, rather than revisiting the Greek mythology era of the early games.
Casting for Kratos and Atreus is currently underway. Christopher Judge, who voices and performs Kratos in the modern games, has expressed interest in reprising the role. However, he has also stated publicly that he holds no resentment toward whichever actor is ultimately chosen, acknowledging the challenges and demands of a live action portrayal.

God of War is one of several major gaming franchises Amazon is currently adapting. The company is preparing to launch a new season of its Fallout series and is simultaneously developing shows based on Mass Effect, Life is Strange, and Tomb Raider. This expansion signals Amazon’s continued commitment to building a large scale portfolio of prestige video game adaptations.
Who do you think should play Kratos and Atreus in the God of War TV series, and do you believe Amazon will successfully capture the emotional depth of the games
