Amazon MGM Studios Developing Wolfenstein TV Series With Fallout's Patrick Somerville at the Helm

Amazon MGM Studios is officially bringing the legendary Wolfenstein video game series to the small screen, according to an exclusive report by Variety. The upcoming adaptation will be led by acclaimed Fallout showrunner Patrick Somerville, who is confirmed to serve as creator, writer, executive producer, and showrunner of the new Wolfenstein series.

While plot specifics remain tightly under wraps, the show is expected to stay true to the series’ unapologetically bold premise. According to Variety, the project is tentatively described with the tagline: "The story of killing Nazis is evergreen." This firmly suggests that the core of Wolfenstein—its signature resistance narrative set in an alternate-history Nazi regime—will remain intact.

Joining the project as executive producer is Jerk Gustafsson, a key figure at MachineGames and a longtime contributor to the Wolfenstein franchise. Gustafsson has served as designer, writer, producer, and managing director for every Wolfenstein installment developed by MachineGames, including Wolfenstein: The New Order, The Old Blood, and Youngblood. His involvement adds a level of authenticity and continuity that fans of the series will no doubt appreciate.

Patrick Somerville’s attachment to the project is already generating strong optimism. Having earned praise for successfully adapting Bethesda's Fallout into a critically and commercially successful live-action series for Amazon, his transition into the Wolfenstein universe signals a serious investment in quality video game storytelling. His background in both gaming and television writing places him in a rare position to translate Wolfenstein’s intense, politically-charged narrative into compelling serialized television.

Somerville is also reportedly a longtime fan of the franchise, dating back to his youth, although it remains unclear whether the series will follow MachineGames' modern reimaginings or delve into other corners of the 14-title-strong Wolfenstein legacy. Either direction leaves room for creative storytelling, brutal action, and the franchise's signature blend of resistance warfare, alternative history, and dark humor.

As Fallout continues to set a new benchmark for game-to-screen adaptations, Amazon MGM Studios appears poised to strike gold again with Wolfenstein. The announcement also fuels speculation that MachineGames could be gearing up to return to the series in tandem, possibly linking the show’s launch with a new Wolfenstein game.

With both Somerville and Gustafsson on board, the Wolfenstein series is shaping up to be another high-profile adaptation that could further define the blueprint for successful video game television in the post-Last of Us and post-Fallout era.

What direction do you hope the Wolfenstein TV series will take? Should it stay faithful to B.J. Blazkowicz’s latest adventures or reimagine the universe entirely? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
