Alan Wake 2 Headlines October’s PS Plus Essential Games, While The Last of Us Part 2 Joins the PS Plus Extra Catalog

Amid today’s PlayStation State of Play presentation, which featured major reveals such as the gameplay debut of Saros and a new trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine, Sony also revealed the PlayStation Plus Essential games lineup for October 2025 and provided a special update for PS Plus Extra subscribers.

The October PS Plus Essential titles are headlined by Remedy Entertainment’s Alan Wake 2, one of the most acclaimed horror games of recent years. The psychological thriller will be available to subscribers beginning October 7, 2025, alongside the critically praised indie puzzle game Cocoon and the chaotic physics-based comedy title Goat Simulator 3.

That same date also marks the deadline for subscribers to claim the September games - Psychonauts 2, Stardew Valley, and Viewfinder - which will rotate out after October 6, 2025.

In addition, PlayStation confirmed that The Last of Us Part II will join the PS Plus Extra catalog this Friday, September 26, 2025, arriving just in time for this year’s The Last of Us Day celebrations. It is one of the biggest first-party PlayStation titles to arrive on the service this year, and will surely be a welcome addition for subscribers who have yet to experience Naughty Dog’s award-winning sequel.

For PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers, Sony teased additions to the Classics Catalog, with Tekken 3, Soulcalibur 3, and Lara Croft Tomb Raider Anniversary listed as “coming soon.” It’s not yet confirmed whether these will all be part of the October lineup, as PlayStation typically reveals the full list of Extra and Premium catalog titles later in the month.

With one of the most acclaimed horror games of the generation headlining Essentials, one of PlayStation’s biggest exclusives joining Extra, and iconic fighting games coming to Premium, October is shaping up to be an especially strong month for PS Plus subscribers across all tiers.
