Asobo Says Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy Is “Almost Here” As New Devblog Signals Release Is Drawing Near

After nearly a year of relative silence, Asobo Studio has finally offered a meaningful update on Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, and the biggest takeaway is simple: the game appears to be entering the home stretch. In a new developer blog, the studio says “the release is almost here” and describes the coming months as focused on testing, balancing, refining mechanics, final recording sessions, and the closing notes of the score. That is the clearest sign yet that the A Plague Tale prequel is approaching launch, even though Asobo still has not attached a specific release date.

The new devblog also confirms more about the game’s setting, structure, and protagonist. Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy takes place 15 years before the events of A Plague Tale: Innocence and A Plague Tale: Requiem, with Sophia stepping into the lead role. The story follows her at age 22, while also revisiting her childhood in the plunderer camp led by her father, Alec. Asobo says Sophia’s journey is tied directly to the Mediterranean Sea and to a personal confrontation with the Macula, suggesting the curse is more deeply connected to her past than players previously knew.

That alone gives the project a much more personal angle than a simple side story. Sophia was already one of the more memorable characters in Requiem, but here she is no longer a supporting presence. The devblog makes it clear that Resonance is designed to explore her trauma, her violence, her independence, and the mystery of what has been haunting her since childhood. Asobo even hints that Requiem was not her first encounter with the Macula, which could make this prequel much more important to the wider mythology of the series than many expected.

The release language is what will likely draw the most attention from fans. Asobo writes that “the release is almost here” and says Sophia is calling players aboard soon, while also stressing that the current phase of development is about final polish rather than core production. That strongly suggests the project is now in final production rather than early content lock, which makes a 2026 release feel highly plausible. That timing is still an inference, but it is a very reasonable one based on the studio’s wording and the state of development it describes.

The devblog also confirms that this is only the beginning of a wider reveal campaign. Asobo says Episode 2 and Episode 3 are “coming up soon,” which indicates that the studio is now actively ramping marketing again after the long quiet period. In practical terms, that usually means a more formal announcement beat is not far off. Whether that leads to a release date trailer, a gameplay showcase, or both, the messaging has clearly shifted from silence to rollout mode.

For now, the most important point is that Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is no longer sitting in the shadows. Asobo has reintroduced the game with a stronger focus on Sophia, confirmed that final production work is underway, and openly told players that release is close. After a year of waiting, that is the strongest signal yet that the next A Plague Tale is finally moving toward the spotlight.

Are you more excited to see how Sophia’s past connects to the Macula, or do you mainly want a release date reveal as soon as possible?
