I Hate This Place Delayed to 2026, but Its New Story Trailer Keeps the Halloween Spirit Alive

It’s Halloween, the perfect time to turn down the lights and dive into a chilling horror game. Whether you’re replaying classics like Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Dead Space, or Alien: Isolation, or trying something newer like Cronos: The New Dawn or Silent Hill f, there’s no shortage of terrifying experiences this season. Unfortunately, I Hate This Place, the upcoming 80s-inspired isometric horror adventure from Broken Mirror Games and Skybound Games, won’t be joining that list this year after all.

Originally scheduled to release on November 7, 2025, the developers have officially delayed I Hate This Place to January 29, 2026, pushing it out of the holiday lineup. The news arrived alongside a new story trailer that perfectly captures the eerie tone and supernatural atmosphere of the game, a haunting treat for Halloween fans, even if the full release is now months away.

In a statement shared on the studio’s official X account, Broken Mirror Games explained the reasoning behind the delay:

“As for the date change, we decided that we need a little more time to better incorporate some changes and features gathered from community feedback. We feel the game deserves to make a good first impression, so we rethought things and set the new release window to January 2026. Thanks for your patience and understanding.”

Based on the comic book by writer Kyle Starks and artist Artyom Topilin, I Hate This Place follows players into a supernatural 1980s world filled with otherworldly threats and mysterious entities. The game was first revealed in March 2025 and quickly drew attention for its distinctive art direction and eerie atmosphere that channels the spirit of classic horror cinema.

The delay may come as a disappointment to fans who were eagerly anticipating the November launch, but the decision appears to be motivated by a desire to polish the experience and respond to community input. It’s a reassuring move for a debut title, especially given the importance of first impressions in today’s crowded indie horror scene.

When it arrives, I Hate This Place will launch on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch, giving players multiple ways to explore its unsettling world. For those who can’t wait until January, a free demo is available on Steam, where it was recently featured during Steam Next Fest.

While it’s a shame that I Hate This Place won’t be haunting screens this Halloween, its new trailer offers a tantalizing preview of what’s to come. And by next year’s spooky season, it might just be one of the top horror titles on sale.

Would you rather see horror games delayed for polish, or do you prefer studios to stick to their original release dates even if it means more post-launch fixes?
